A HAND FINDING YOUR WAY

How can we help?

Finding a location is open to everyone. Keeping the directory accurate is something we do together.

Find a location

Search by a listed name, city, ZIP, or street. The search checks information submitted to this directory; it does not search every address in Google Maps.

Choose blessing boxes, little libraries, or both. A structure that serves both purposes appears in both categories. On a phone, use the Map / List buttons to change views.

Move the map and press Search this area to limit results to the visible area. Starting a text search clears the previous map-area limit. The Use my location button asks for your permission only when you press it.

Open a listing for access notes, the latest editor and update time, and directions. If the map is unavailable, the list and location details remain usable.

Add or correct information

Create an account with a public username and verify your email. You can then add a location or edit any public listing, including one submitted by someone else.

Enter the location information and place the pin on the actual structure. The address is not automatically converted into a pin position. You can also enter coordinates without manipulating the map.

If another person saves an edit while your form is open, you will be asked to review the newer information before saving. Your unsaved draft will remain available for reconciliation.

Read the contribution rules before adding information.

Understand the listing status

  • Active: a contributor reports that the structure is present and intended for use.
  • Temporarily unavailable: the structure exists but access is temporarily unavailable.
  • Location uncertain: the position needs clarification or someone could not find it.
  • Removed: the structure is reported to be gone. These listings are hidden from default results but remain available using the removed-locations filter.

None of these labels indicate that a box is stocked, that a particular book is available, or that anything has been inspected.

Report a problem

Open the location and choose Report a problem. Reports are private and go to an administrator. You can report without an account, and a report does not automatically change or hide the listing.

If a verification email has not arrived, check your spam folder and use the resend option on the verification page. An expired link can be replaced with a fresh one.
